Life in Wanderlust

I’ve been in Berkeley for a few months and haven’t written anything. Somehow being back in school has caused my mind and writing abilities to disappear into the fog that hovers in the horizon here most days. It’s probably the perpetual stress and the paralysis that it has been inducing this semester. I’m going to try my best to salvage this first semester but also feel at peace with the idea that it has been an adjustment period; my ugling duckling stage.

There seems to be two levels of existence. Pure survival and then luxury. I don’t want to oversimplify since there are many more contributors to quality of life. However at the root, there are those struggling to find food and shelter and without infrastructure to support them. Then there are those of us who complain about being in graduate school. Of course higher education is difficult and takes extreme discipline, but why do we do it? I guess it’s hope. Hope that what we are doing matters. What we will do, will be the best possible because we’ve put so much of our time, energy, and heart into learning how to create change.
