On growth and imagination

“I believe that a desirable future depends on our deliberately choosing a life of action over a life of consumption, on our engendering a lifestyle which will enable us to be spontaneous, independent, yet related to each other, rather than maintaining a lifestyle which only allows to make and unmake, produce and consume.”

― Ivan Illich

Was browsing some old files and came across this quote. I skimmed through some internet resources about Illich and he makes a good point about how schools create an intellectual hierarchy and force people to gauge and judge imagination and personal growth. Qualities that I currently don’t think can or should be compared. He introduces provoking prompts, will have to read more of his work.
