The Hollywood Urban Planning Pop-Up Shop with James Rojas opens this Sunday (January 22nd) in Hollywood. The project features an interactive model of the city and encourages visitors to rearrange and organize the spaces based on their own inclinations. It looks like a great way to get a community involved in thinking about the structure and planning of cities. The article suggests the project is “Returning the city builders back to the sand box [which] means there are no wrong or right impulses.” I wish I was on the west coast so I could check this out, but hopefully I’ll be engaged in urban design coursework by this time next year- fingers crossed. I’m interested in learning more about what Rojas has learned from the community at large since starting his interactive workshops.
