bolivian road

“Last night about four hours into our trip to La Paz, the bus was forced to stop due to a blockade created by indigenous people. We were forced to spend the night in this “San Francisco bus.” We pissed in the jungle and have been rationing food. The bus is currently sitting on the road (it’s 10:00am). We are parked next to a truck full of pigs. There is a 15 year old kid running this bus. He makes 200 bolivianos~30 US dollars a day. The Policia walked by a few minutes ago. They are going to teargas the blockade, so most of us have re-entered the bus.”

“So the cops came to the blockade but they didn’t do much. At around noon we decided to walk with our bags. It took four hours to reach a taxi which took us to Boro Boro. From there, we took another cab to a town an hour away. We bought bus tickets to Cochabamba. The ride was about four hours and the views of the cliffs were incredible. We are now at Hostel Jardin and departing for La Paz tomorrow. My face is so warm, may be running a fever?”

This Thanksgiving, I’m thankful for transport infrastructure. 🙂
